The Namib is widely regarded as the oldest desert in the world harbouring elephant, rhino, lion and giraffe and is home to one of the world´s oldest living plants, the welwitschia mirabilis. The Namib is a narrow strip of coastal desert, owing much of its character to the cold Benguela Current. The cold waters are rich in zoo and phytoplankton, and sustain a wealth of marine life along the coast. The current generates a life-giving coastal fog, which pushes inland during the night, cooling the land after the heat of the day thus ensuring the survival of the Namib´s desert-adapted animals and plants. You will visit the Namib-Naukluft Park, a wilderness of almost 50 000 square kilometers, Namibia´s largest conservation area and home to Sossusvlei the most visually stunning feature of the Namib. The white deflationary clay-floor pan, Dead Pan, lies in between the warm red coloured dunes and makes for spectacular photography.
